Is this anything to worry about?

Hi there
I’ve had these indoor ficus and fukien trees for a few months now And have noticed this dark discolouration to the base of the trunk.

Anyone have a guess what this is because of?

I agree with the diagnosis, but not the prognosis.
Slow down your watering, and repot to better draining soil when appropriate. The chopstick trick is helpful for these situations. Stab a wooden or bamboo chopstick or skewer into the soil all the way to the bottom of the pot and leave it there. Use it as dipstick to check soil moisture.

Thanks for the suggestions
I do feel like the soil stays damp for a long time after watering. I will change to a better soil When I repot them In a couple weeks time
Appreciate the help

Good advice was given. Repotting in a proper substrate is a good direction. The current soil looks like mud….soggy muck. Back off the watering. You don’t show where you live, but it appears the trees are kept indoors anyway so weather conditions outside are not a concern. I’d focus on returning the trees to a healthy growing condition after the soil change to a substrate.

The Ficus is probably just need to dry out but the Fukien Tea might be of a concern. I don't own Fukien Tea so can't really comment much. How long has it been like that? You may want to let the soil dry out a bit before watering again.
