Is this Eugenia Uniflora nebari worthless?

Got the tree last year in a narrow deep pot, repotted it by the end of our winter.
The nebari has some spread, but there is no taper at all and the roots suddenly go down around the original rootball.
Should I cover them up with soil when I next repot, or is there another way to thicken them up somehow? I will surely try to spread them flat, but the lack of taper bothers me a lot.

in my garden these roots would be below the soil and at the next repotting I would try some drastic pruning. 🤷‍♀️

Yes, that's what I was expecting as an answer. Thanks, but I was careless in the Spring and repotted it too high.
I guess I will have to lower it in this pot next Spring, and wait a whole season to prune them properly. Thanks @leatherback .
