Hi. Just got in to bonsai. I “rescued” this Fukien tea tree from the clearance section of a big box store. The little guy was in pretty great shape. I removed it from its waterlogged soil and repotted in a mixture of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark. Then this guy was so happy and doing well! Growing and blooming. Then our house flooded and this guy was moved to the garage and got too dry. Its leaves turned brown and fell off. I’ve been trying to get it back to growing or something but I’m concerned I over watered and now it’s got root rot. I have treated roots with diluted hydrogen peroxide. Replanted in fresh potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark but I think it may be already dead? Idk what to do. I really love this little tree and want to help it get back to how it was before. Thank you for your help.

From what I hear, Fukien tea have a reputation for being pretty fickle and don't like drying out. I can't be sure but it looks like the bark is wrinkling as if it's dessicating... if that's truly the case, the tree is dead.

Full disclosure- I've never grown a Fukien tea but know just enough to be dangerous :D.

That looks very dead to me. From that picture, it looks like all to fine roots have rotted away.

Thank you! I’ll stop torturing myself and stop worrying about the tree. The bark is very dry and peeling off.
