Sure looks like scale or mealy bug crawlers It’s about time for them to make an appearance. It’s also a good time to easily kill them.

One of your photos shows some threadlike protrusions on a little guy. The only issue is I’ve never seen them so far afield. Usually on the backside and crotches old leaves. But entirely possible as I’ve not sat around looking for them either.

Check out this website.

MY First goes would be something along these lines. Adult female cottony cushion scale (Icerya purchasi)
I had looked them up, but they're not that big, maybe pine needle scale?

I've seen the brown mature adults years ago, once, and these have just shown up
today that I noticed, and not far from a new mugo pine I got last week.

I will comb through everything tomorrow then hit everything with insecticidal soap.
It's that time anyway, in fact, past due really.
I haven't seen any dew, but not all scale leave dew either.

Mealy bugs never crossed my mine. I will have to investigate. Thanks!

They're hunkered down, don't smear off and don't see them moving really.
But I would prefer that be the case :)
Wasps always visit my trees briefly, and I saw a Ladybug on a juniper today.
So I knew I needed to spray anyway, just hadn't planned on this party crasher ya know.

Good job! I’ve also seen alcohol on Q tip used for killing individuals that one can spot on foliage.

cheers

I just found these on a mugo. Scale? I scraped them off, isolated the tree and sprayed the scales with Clorox.

I never saw them again. I did as DSD recommended using alcohol and a Q-tip
on ones I saw. I've not seen any mature or brown scale either, but am having an issue
with all of my pine trees, 2 and 5 needle. A local agricultural extension agent was supposed to stop by and
take pics of them, but seemed less interested when he drove up and saw they were bonsai trees.
I had told him they were, but he didn't hear me I guess when I told him I was placing them down off the rail in anticipation
of wind gusts. They're susceptible to the same diseases as if in the ground I continued, but he didn't sound interested
in pursuing it any further.
