Hi,
I'm on the west coast of N. America. Found this small tree growing - not sure if it's a type of hemlock....
Thanks.

fir

This is either a White Fir (Abies concolor) or a Grand Fir (Abies grandis). On the coast I'd guess Grand Fir as the Whites are more mountainous trees. The White has whitish lines on both sides of the leaf and the Grand has silvery white on the bottom of the leaf.

Was thinking some kind of fir myself. Not a maple for sure though. If this were Michigan I'd say balsam for. Not sure of the species where you live. A good way for me to tell if it's a white fir is pinch its foliage and they smell kind of like citrus. For real.
