I acquired this taxus from a fellow bnutter, thanks @lordy.
Flat chop on top, will need some carving in the future.
It's in recovery mode for the year.
Here are a couple pics from earlier in April, when I got my mitts on it, and a few from yesterday showing the new growth.
Not sure where I'm gonna take this one yet...

Seriously? It's just a spring clean for the May Queen.

Yes, there are two paths you can go by
But in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on.

Nice growth on that thing already!

Was it in full shade?

Is it in native soil?

It might have a tiny bit of native soil left, but as far as I've dug down. It's all bonsai soil.
And I think it was in full sun, last year's leaves have a more yellow color than my other yews, I thought it was due to full sun, before.
Mine get full/partial dappled sun until about 2 pm, then shade.

Gonna be repotting this one for the first time in a few hours here...
I have no idea what is under there...
After that first flush of growth last spring, it shot out a bunch of long runners in late summer/fall, so know it's healthy and rebounded from it's collection.
I plan to reduce top and bottom significantly, because of ain't F'ing around.
Pics coming...

Removing from winter storage, burried on North side of the house under the deck...
Had to pull out 2 other trees that began growing under there, today...and I noticed this one looked like the buds are moving.
I don't know how long the previous owner had it in this container, but due to the growth last year, I'm confident it's ready.

Many long extensions came out in the second flush last year...
This is how I know the tree is ready for work.
KIMG0280.JPG

The root ball was more shallow and wide than I expected...but dense and healthy.
I did remove some roots before the hose job pics.

I wanted to put it in this heavy blue flower pot, similar to 2 of my other yews... but it (the root base) was too wide, and already so flat...I used the only pot I had that was big enough, but not too big....

I didn't touch the top growth, on the stuff I left...
Gonna let it recover for another year or two before wiring and styling...
