Does anyone know if It’s possible to root jacaranda from a cutting? I have a youngling, about 4 feet tall and I am going to cut it down to about 16” and really don’t want to waste the cutting if its possible to root. It’s not even fully lignified? all the way up. It’s really busting out growth below the 16” mark, sooo….
Thanks for any help

It is possible but the bad genes get magnified on cuttings and air layers of these (and some other species), best to start with seed grown for genetic diversity sake. A 'grandaugher' cutting of jacaranda can give you hard time just keeping alive.

This is a new tree, it’s growing vigorously, I just want to keep it low, but don’t want to waste the cutting if I’m able. Thanks

Keep it as low as you can by bending, a new leader will emerge at the top of the bend. Keep sacrifice (bent part) for energy until you start to pine over new cuttings. :)

I chopped the trunk of my jacaranda two months ago. It is budding at and below the cut. Which gave me courage to cut back some of the older branches today. Hope they bud back. Also I was able to root the top I cut off.

You can always try. If it works it works. If not, then you can discard.

Yeah, I kinda did the same thing. Cut it way down and rooted cutting. It’s wired and bent. It’s a vigorous grower!, so the cut is no problem.
