Is the Japanese Elm a good beginner bonsai like the Chinese elm?

Japanese elm = zelkova serrata????

Elms, in general, are quite tough and suitable for beginners.
Cotoneasters are as well.
Azaleas, likewise, and they come with the benefit of pretty flowers in spring.

All can be cut back hard, readily root, and do very well being dug/repotted about 6 weeks after the summer solstice.
