Summer is not a period for quince blooming; but once in a while we could see it bloom. However the flower quality is not as good as the one in winter. The flower bud is also blooming and then fading away fast! It liked “here today, gone tomorrow” or is ephemeral!

In the last 2 days, outside temperature went up to 118 F!! I should have moved the small quince pots to the east side of the garden! This afternoon they had sign of heat damage!

This one has bigger pot, and it has been doing fine, even though it stays in the same place with smaller pots.

I have had the same happen to one of mine this summer. I have 3 and only one had leaf burns. I think it had weak roots and couldn't move water as efficiently as the other 2. It has since recovered. we just ended a 2 week heat spell and all 3 did fine.

I agree. It is good to know your plants are fine now .

Thanks for suggestion Leo. I will remember to do that 😊

Thanks for helping me to answer Leo’ s question.
Yes, Toyo nishiki has 3 flower colors on the same tree: red, white and pink. SMS has red, white, white with red band, white with multiple red pots or stripes and red with white band. I think the Evergreen garden has this yow of quince but I don’t know if it will be exactly the same .

Where can I find them to buy?

Hi Bonhe,

Here is a quince that I recently bought about a week ago and the leaves are turning brown and falling off... I don't know what I'm doing wrong? Is it the hot weather that I'm at (Diamond Bar, CA)... Is the tree dying...?

Sorry for the late response!
Yes, this is a sign of sun (heat) burn. You should move it to the shady place for now. If you can place it in the area with morning sun only, it is good. Don’t worry too much. It will come back with new leaves. Don’t fertilize it at this time . Because it is a new arrival to your garden, it will be stress. Good luck to you.

This type of quince is very interesting because in the summer, instead of red flower right at blooming , it will be pink, then it gradually transfers to the red color in a few days. It doesn’t like in the winter when the red will appear right away and rarely see pink color at that time !

With the long young shoot, I just partially break it, instead of cut it back ! I want to bring it downward for now before I cut it back in the near future.

I did not know there was so much variation of colors and striations on petals on even within the same plant with these. Almost Satsuki like!

Thank you for your response... I've moved it to a morning sun only location; however, all leaves have dropped now. Should I re-pot?... I might have contributed by adding too much fertilizer.

Yes, thanks for reminding me. It is combined between sunburn and fertilizer burn.
You should water the soil aggressively for few minutes and let the plant in the shade for now until you see the new leaves coming out. It should be fine . Good luck to you .

Coincidentally, 1 of mine started to bloom today.

It’s my first time ever seeing chaenomeles flower in person. Exciting!

It is Kan Toyo... but the flower and buds are white. I thought they were supposed to be both pink and white lol. All good...better than nothing.

I also have 5 other young ones I got at the same time - 2 Iwai Nishiki, O Yashima, standard Toyo Nishiki, Contorted Salmon Pink. I hope they flower too.

Very nice flower !
Looks like you plant it as landscaping plant. I saw you use chicken wire to protect it from gopher ?
