A Summer Update

Hi folks,
Just wanted to add this summer update to this thread. I re-potted it this spring and it responded v. well.
I know that the photo isn't expertly taken but I think that it shows the current stage of development......the second photo is when I got the tree 5 years ago.
NOW all I have to do is find a pot that works with it.
Cheers
Graham

Very nice to see! Most of my plants are simply growing out of control this year because of the house renovation. I am really itching to get back at them. Thanks for the update!

Hi Folks,
Another month gone by and our crazy warm weather has made this fellow "flush" again.:(
The second photo shows a technique I use to lower the bottom branch - a Gibbs 8oz lead weight.
Cheers

Very nice! Forgive me for not reading through the whole thread but did you ever find a new pot for it?

Your tree is outstanding. I have 2 of these ( one is being gifted to a friend of mine ), but this tree has encouraged me to pay really close attention to mine.

Thanks Rick, It's a joy to work on.
They do like to grow but I keep a close eye on it so I can see if it needs some summer thinning.:) Graham

I was thinking about this today. I understand the pruning of branches where you cut back to a bud in the direction you want the branch to grow, but how do you pinch needles for refinement. Do you thin some of the current years growth, thin some of last years growth, or both

Wait there won't be any last years growth. Man I really need to think before I type.

OK thanks Vance. Should I bring the tree

Rick

No reason not to. I'll show you a way to deal with the new growth on Larch that's far better than the traditional method.
