Just out of curiosity, what’s the price tag on those in your area Bobby?

Japanese maples are not very common around here, most in the nurseries are really expensive. Those would be a few hundred at least. I’ve seen some biger ones priced over $1,000!
Theyre pretty pricey here too mate. Those are £250 each but with 20% vat its gonna cost £300 and in US thats $356. its still a good investment the way I look at it, because I know if I make a go of it, I can make that nice one into a very good bonsai in 3-5 years and it would eventually be worth quite a bit more than what I paid, as a 'bonsai'. I would definitely get back my outlay at the very least. theres some big hornbeams here at similar prices, theyre probably 3-4 times as big as the maples. if you have a garden and you can get one delivered, you can for sure make 3 substantial trees out of the material with layering. but I tend to chop on site as youve seen over the years:)
