i forgot to post this elegant Deshojo.needs a tidy up and a new home

maybe needs a few root grafts🤔
maybe needs shortening🤔

but i wouldnt bother with all that, if i kept it i would potentially try flipping it over to the right and growing it out as a raft.

J maple after some extension work on the shari and change of position in pot. basically two fronts, nebari is quite decent on the clean side. the first shari work was done a few weeks ago, if you look closely you can see where part of the cambium has began to roll in. no paste was used.once the tree adjusts, this deadwood can be hollowed out even further, maybe next season if i have it that long

Just picked up a dozen of Japanese maples from a club member/local weirdo who is getting rid of all of his material to do some traveling. A few already dug out of his backyard and potted and several more that I dug and pulled today. I have big material in front of me and a lot of work to do over the years. Some exciting prospects....

I've scrolled through this thread before, but just wanted to say thank you for the valuable information. Gives me confidence to see big cuts, chops and carving. Appreciate the path...

another shot
20221122_144248.jpg

has the look of a typical bonsai kyohimi, with a short fat trunk and wide open dome. both have 'sold' tags on.
not really my cup of tea anyway, would be a good investment tho

Just out of curiosity, what’s the price tag on those in your area Bobby?

Japanese maples are not very common around here, most in the nurseries are really expensive. Those would be a few hundred at least. I’ve seen some biger ones priced over $1,000!
