Today i repotted it, had a better look at the roots, the root system was pretty shallow
20190315_155747 by Bobby Lane, on Flickr

i had to cut off a big, circling root
there are a couple roots coming off the edge of it so hopefully these will stay alive and the wound can begin callusing over....there is a bit of a root spread there, just needs development

the wound was fully sealed, being at the base i used a little kyonel then sealed in with cut paste, be nice if it begins to callus, i also felt the tree could be slanted slightly,

there was some discussion and a suggestion from @AlainK to remove middle trunk, i agreed this was a good idea. but i haven't cut it flush, there is a node and shoulder there, i may have a little growth coming from this area, less scars the better for this particular material
20190315_190635 by Bobby Lane, on Flickr

this will be a very natural looking, airy type of image
20190315_191843 by Bobby Lane, on Flickr

proportions are far better now
20190315_191935 by Bobby Lane, on Flickr

this is going to be the back
20190315_192018 by Bobby Lane, on Flickr

so i may use this cut stub to fill in the front a little more.....i think if all goes to plan this tree could be scar few in a few years

Now that the lessor trunks are gone the taller of the two trunks looks completely unnatural to me. It's the curve and the lack of taper combined, sort of reminds me of a banana. I usually see where you're going with stuff, but this one has me scratching my head, I'll be interested to see where you go.

Yeah, I kind of get the same feeling about that trunk. Maybe with time as the rest of the tree develops it will be OK. Or maybe it can be cut back to the next node where there is currently a branch moving
to the upper right. Another option might be to thread graft a branch or two to the lower part of that right trunk and cut it way back, using the left trunk as the main part of the tree.

Definitely needs some carving though! :p

My initial plans are more of a naturalistic informal broom image, i posted this collage in another thread recently, one is of a tree i snapped in the park, the other is a maple from the swindon show

this is a broom celtis from the ibc

then the angle somewhat changed after re potting, this option is still there from the side but the tree needs to fill out more and it will eventually have more than one front...

i see the banana too! my thoughts were to let the tree go a bit, let a couple of the leaders thicken and see if the transition appears more natural, it will indeed appear more natural, but the banana shape will remain. the other option is to trim back the right trunk to the branch lower down, that way you get rid of the banana curve. the sub trunk would then go up and curve to the right, rather than curving inwards to the left trunk.

yep that is one option.

plenty of buds popping as a result of the hard prune over winter, so no need for any thread grafting. buds are forming up and down the trunks.

tree is back in the green house recovering.

This seems like the most viable path to me at this point. This seems like several trees I developed that I wound up wasting several years waiting for the obvious flaw to get better somehow over time, that I had to start over with after it just got uglier and uglier in my mind...
I'm sure you'll figure it out, you have a good touch with D. I'll be watching.
