When it Leafs out the Foilage will cover a good portion of that Trunk in a downward fashion... de-emphizing the Trunk.....I think it will be a fantastic looking Japanese Maple...Nice work.

It was not much more than a stump about 4 years ago. No low branches so it will end up twice as tall as it is now I reckon.

The apex looks like you've kept cut back as there's some nice twiggy growth there. In your opening post you said it'd end up twice as tall. Are you planning on letting an escape branch grow from the top next year to increase height?

Not really. I just plant to let it expand from all the branches and remove congestion as I go. When I'm approaching a better height I will concentrate more on ramification. I don't particularly like the present apex.
