A Japanese black pine no 1 from Ed Clark. Figured I’d ready for a decent starter pine…Will be nice to get into a grow pot or colander to develop further. Nice bark and base. There were ones at studio but more interested in the natives there conifer wise.

I like this one. I prefer Japanese red pines to black pines. It's quickly becoming one of my favorite species and is highly underrated in the US imo.

Scots Pine is my favorite 2 needle pine. JWP my favorite 5 needle pine.
Those are great too.. JWP would have loved to find one but any that are the size of that JBP are like triple the price. I do know 2 growers of Scotts pine in PA incase I change my mind and get 1

Repotted Japanese Red Pine .. buds are moving ..cut circling roots at bottom it was still loose so I didn’t touch that much except to straighten them out a bit.. going into colander. Staying in garage for the shuffle ..

Same with this Japanese Black Pine , buds moving .. places into training pot. Removed encircling roots at bottom and straightened them out.. exposed excess at top too. Excited to see this develop.. this is the nices JBP I own( so far).. repotted in a mostly lava and pumice mix with some akadama.

I swear by this stuff too for my conifers. Mixed into my substrate combos.

#2 JBP Cascade.......as tree grows gap between 1st bend in trunk and self will narrow. For sake of future potting may want to widen gap now while is more limber;).

I’ll need to retake pictures, but the black and red pine seem to be suffering some shock. Or heat damage. Candles are vigorously growing , I’m not overwatering because candles are slightly wilting.

Yep, retake a couple clear photos….not sure I can recognize an issue except a needle fungus. It appears on both the first JBP shown and the JRP. Wouldn’t hurt to spray some copper fungicide 360 on these two trees,

As far as Biotone goes, well your trees, your choice…. imho adding a number of foreign soil critters into the rhizospherie is only going to start a soil war between what’s already there and what is in the package. Likely not good for the tree in the short term at the very least. The trees also carry their own established rhizospheric critters with them when you repot.… and if repotting, wouldn’t one do well to hold the fertilizer for a couple weeks…?

Not decandling this year , what I did do was remove some needles that were damaged and some shoots to allow better air flow and directional growth.

Was alittle nervous early on in spring not sure from shipping , climate adjusting or a slight fungal issue but these trees are healthy and doing well .. thanks to some advice from @Deep Sea Diver regarding copper spray timing for that extra dose of knowledge of prevention / mitigation that I am still learning.
