Japanese White Pine Help

Okay so I got this beast of a pine for 40 dollars at a nursery. I am looking at the tree and it def needs to be shaped more perhaps some branches taken off. I realized that some of the wire I have on the branches aren’t strong enough but any other advice.

many suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Really tough material to work with IMHO.
I struggled some with a lanky mugo --> this thread has some thoughts that may or may not be helpful to you.

Honestly dude , I might take all branches off except the top two and wire them down but again idk I might do something like that. Of wire the front two and level out to develop pads and wire the back long branch down towards front to develop a lower layer

That's a good plan but let it take five years.

Allow your keeper section to grow enough folaige to sustain the plant.

Wire the trunk instead of the sac branches.

So wire the trunk but not the branches I want to slope down to develop layers? I have really thick gauge wire but that did not even bend the tree. I might just keep those branches that I don’t cut off wired and wire trunk. Perhaps leave the bottom branches alone to grow.
How old do you think this tree might be ?

True , I just want to wire the back to get it into position on the front and the bottom two to get that padding. I want it to look like it’s been a yamadori growing on the mountainside of Mt Fuji duh

You have to do nothing, except watering.
I did some screw ups in the past, after three years of just water and fertilizer, some trees are granting me second chances. Others went further downhill and require a 40 year plan that I'm not sure I'm up for.
The burn pile is always an option. I have some space left for the mangled ones and watering isn't that much of a chore, but nonetheless I consider burning some ugly trees every time.
Plant it in the ground and forget it for a couple years, always an option too.

I windswept it.. it will sit till repot, in spring cause it’s still in soil.. only this will the making sure the pot lines up with the front.

Do nothing but water and feed September through October. You need to let it grow and see how it buds as that will have an impact on how you style it. Don’t over feed or water as your needles will get too long.

Also, check the buds on it, remember with a JWP if a branch hasn’t budded it may die, so you need to be careful as you haven’t got much to play with currently.

Okay I changed the position of wiring to windswept and just watering once every 3 days , What fertilizer do you recommend as it’s still potted with organic material and will have soil change in spring

I use Noroku, starting September I give a good handful every could of weeks until end of October.

I am I’m the U.K however, so dependant on your location someone may be able to offer better advice if your climate is quite different

Yea ... in PA, USA I’m in a 6b-7b zone.. Köppen climate of Cfa, humid subtropical

In that case hopefully a local could add, humid and subtropical are far away from what the climate is like here, so inevitably will cause some differences in care.
