I got this yew last summer.

Is it normal for this yew to be yellow? Some foliage is however green.

Some foliage is yellow and the leafs are falling off if brushed. They are a pale yellow.

My guess would be that the roots are either being kept too wet or too dry. Your soil looks very heavy so a re-pot might be in order. Yews are very tough so your tree should rebound from this easily.

Hi dave,

I was going to repot this year but couldn’t because i missed the opportunity to repot my Larch forest - i was swapping the pots around. So i’m going to do it next spring.

The soil isn’t the best i agree, but i’am allowing it to dry between watering.

Maybe i should test the soil PH

If those are current pictures, I'd say you still have a window to re-pot. Those buds are just extending, so I'd be ok with doing it now. Consider a half bare root, with the goal of removing old soil and dead roots if present. Place in the shade for a few weeks post re-pot and then start light ferts. You can check your water ph, but I'm pretty sure yews don't mind alkaline conditions... though if your soil is peat based, all bets are off.

Repot is still possible but the reason I can’t is i’m swapp pots with my larch forest. My teacher said its too late as the larch doesn’t like root disturbance

I also suspect soil too wet, not enough O2.
I'd go ahead and Repot, it'll probably like it, even if it mopes a bit at first.

Hi Driver170,
Why not repot back into the box it is growing in, and let it get its strength back for another year or two. No hurry on bonsai pot, and you asked for advice, but you didn’t like it??
Your choice I guess but wet feet = death usually.

Hi guys,

Maybe a repot will be for the best.

What soil does yew prefer? I was thinking Akadama?
