i just bought this dwarf jasmine and its already the right size for me for a bonsai so i want to get started.

i was wondering, can i go straight into a bonsai pot or should i go into a training pot first? i would estimate the current root ball is about 8"x8"

in fact, any tips about how to proceed, like pruning, wiring etc. greatly appreciated

thx

no replies so i went ahead and had a go anyhow

i put it in a fairly big pot because i want it to keep growing, outwards not up. so i trimmed some of the taller branches and wires the remaining ones level or slightly down. hopefully they will continue to grow and thicken in the new shape.

at least it looks pretty nice already i think and i think over time will get better

i plan to buy a few more smaller jasmines so i can start to train them into a nice shape at while still soft and easy to move. the wood on the 1/2" plus branches is very rigid and almost impossible to move i think so the wiring needs to be done early.
