I dug this JBP out of the ground this spring in April. Didn't do any pruning or candle cutting to increase needle mass and build up strength. It somehow pushed a 2nd flush on its own in late June/early July. Now the buds at the very top of the apex seem to be elongating again. You can see the green in the photos. Is it trying to push another round of growth? The tree is very strong other than this. Mew needles are 4-5" long and most of the old needles are still attached. I even have back budding at the base of the trunk at the soil line.
Has anyone had similar experience? I did fertilize this summer with slow release pellets at 20-20-20 and some organic rapeseed cakes. The roots were pretty good with mostly fine roots because it was in a pot for 3 years and I combed the roots before it went into the ground. I am just worried that it may exhaust all the energy it accumulated during the 5 years it was in the field.
I know the pot is horrible and I will change it down the road...
