JBP in Development

Just took a close up look at my JBP that I have had in development for a couple of years now. This will be year 3 in the colander. I really expect this year to be the launching pad for some serious trunk girth building.

Problem is, it looks like I may have an unbelievably severe wooly aphid infestation. Am I just being deceived. Is there a white substance that forms in new candles that I'm not fully aware of?

Can you post some more photos? Particularly at the base of the new candles.

Hard to see from the pix, but you might have a few wooly aphids. They're messy, so you might be surprised at how few are actually there. Rub them out one at a time. I've never found them to be difficult to control. Never found them on a pine either; usually on a J. Maple that stays dry and shady.

I'll try to get some more photos this weekend. I have a pretty notorious indoor wooly problem. And yes, usual my maples outdoors have some issues. So far, my kiyohime that's like 2 feet away has nothing on it. It looks like cotton webby crap inbetween all of the new candles and soon to be needles. I hesitate to spray the new candles as I really don't want to remove any this year. I was considering ordering some wooly killer kits.
