On some of my Japanese Maples there has been limited buds forming leaves. Leafing is happening at random branches but it seems like the majority is being ignored. Scratch test and the trees are still green, buds look healthy but are not leafing out. Is this from lack of or root damage? Comparing this to my Facination JM that leafed out like crazy 3 weeks ago, these others seem to be having a hard go.
The Emporer1 I top chopped and made into a bonsai over the winter has a nice healthy leader, but only new bud growth is showing at the leader base and not the buds on the leader. Is this normal? Seems a bit strange. It is like its not happy with the leader and trying to make a new one.
