I have what I believe is a needle Juniper that I stuck cuttings from on July 3rd. They are in a coconut coir/perlite substrate in a propagation dome with a heat mat underneath. From what I have read I should expect them to root in 1-3 months.

1) Have I properly followed the correct steps for cuttings?
2) what signs are the best way to know roots have formed and to begin to decrease humidity? I don’t trust the light tug and feel resistance method.

:) You are being very nice to your cuttings.

I stick mine in a tray of substrate in semi-shade outside and let them be. In spring I empty the tray, get those that have roots and pot them up individually. The rest returns to the tray!

Healthy shining growth is a sure sign of rooting.

Healthy growth is a good sign.
If you can see the bottom of the container roots emerging from the drain holes is even better.
Juniper cuttings can take longer. I would expect roots anywhere between 1 and 18 months, sometimes even longer. Hopefully the heat mat will reduce the wait.
