I figured someone else would actually help!

Would probably be a good idea to show off more of the trunk and deadwood ?

Carefully IMO...

That jin is nice but it really screws with your directionality.

I'd try and stretch everything close to it closer to it, while exposing that nice shari/ live twist by putting a pad behind it.20171120_054923.jpg

Note the broke up behind pad. Expose any more interesting part up higher too.

That jin...maybe it aint nice!

The way the other side comes out definitely creates a STOP.
You want the viewer to keep going up and back, maybe more exposed trunk will assist in the need to go up, but coming back down the trunk will likely be stopped there again . Could just need a nicer pot too though. I'd favor hiding the yellow side of the red, leaving the jin. So far.

My biggest concern would be the 2 seemingly equal drop branches.
One should be reduced IMO. Not soon. Not at all!

I like the front cut in favor of the 2 green branches.
Possibly the back cut, unless you need to move/hide that branch behind for depth.

But 2 long hangers is too much...
Not IMO....almost every Demo shows one of those cut off.

Decisions decisions.....years and years to make!

God.....Damn!

Friggin Non Depot Juniper!

I might tend to apply Dan Robinson's vision in this case...Wild and rough.

There are to many vertical drops I agree

I have found personally , when you pay a lot of money for a tree ( yamadori ) , I tend to not want to cut off branches and try use everything .
I know this is wrong and need to just bite the bullet and cut branches that aren't going to contribute

I would consider a major bend to shorten and compact the foliage towards the interior. Then wire the branches to expose more of the trunk and jins In time. change the planting angle to a slightly more upright form taking advantage of the broader base. Reduce the lower Jin or remove. Then consider what makes the best options going forward. Juniper styles can have a lot of movement. Here is a rough example of the concept.

If you weren't' over the pond you could sell it for 3 times as much to "drop branch Dav4"!

Lol! Just playing....

But @Dav4 has a couple good long term junipers threads you can feed off of!

I've started creating some pads based on the input from Sorce
I'll try get pics up tomorrow if I get home early enough

I have no experience with major bends

This tree was repotted in April so I don't think a change in angle is possible for a few years ?

Just with the pad formation it looks a lot better imho

It's a bit dark here now but this one is closer
Can you take one from a proper viewing angle?

Like this:

The idea is to set up the camera to be at or just above the rim of the pot. This gives the best view of the trunk.
