just picked up this very root bound juniper. Clipped out dead foliage and some other just to open up some to get light to lower branches.

Seems like there is a lot of possibility here. Never worked on these much but I have had a recent bug to start.

I slip potted into a larger nursary can and packed around with bonsai soil, well leftover bonsai soil, re screened. It was so root bound it split the nursary pot.

I think it might be a Sargent or large parsonii.

Any help on identifying and styling advice would be appreciated along with when I can safely bare root and pot in bonsai soil.

I dont know what species

But i repot my junipers in spring or summer either will work.
Barerooting can be done but bit with risk if you want To play it safe you could also use the halfbareroot method

Design sugestions:
It apears that the foliage is far away from the trunk makes it tough to make it a compact design...
the trunk itsself has some movement and is quite long maybe there is a literati in there somewere ?

Goodluck !

I was planning to grow it out for years to thicken up while bringing in foil age and creating future deadwood features with sacrificial branaches.

Thank you much for the response
