Refining some pads on my procumbens to show a bit more wood.

That clump in the red circle has been off the tree for 5 days in 100 degree heat. Still green.

They store a lot of water in the foliage, they also can absorb the water vapor in the air through the stoma, thats one of the keys on how they survive in very dry places. A juniper branch keeped in a humid place can stay green for a year o more without any roots

This is why it is some time after the event that we notice dying branches. Often by the time the branch shows signs we've forgotten that we missed a day of watering or wired and bent it a few weeks before.

My first bonsai was one of those mall juniper gifts. Thought it was doing great until it didn't. Didn't know they could last that long w/o roots though, kind of like succulents. I'm interested to see how long one can last.
