Just a dusting of snow...but I so do love venturing out before anyone has stirred...

I could have spent most the morning outdoors...unaware of the cold. Just mesmerized by the heavy laden snow on the branches of the trees. :o Dawn barely breaking...no one up and about outdoors. My little piece of Heaven...yep...I am a true Ohioan...

Sadly...reality set in...my husband's truck is in the shop...and he's driving the car we have hidden from our son for his Christmas gift. (Not a new car...but a decent Subaru with AWD) so off we went down the road about 4 miles to the mechanics...so he can get himself to work using the car our son doesn't know about. Handles well in the snow. Which is what we wanted for him.

You and my Wife would get along nicely. She likes it as well. Myself I am happier when we have a Winter like 2011 and the Lawn areas needed to be cut on January 14th. I also liked it when we had a Winter and it snowed 8 inches on Halloween and never again for the entire winter :p

My ideal winter day...a thick heavy coating of snow...and bundling up with the dogs and kids and heading to the woods. Where everything is pristine and untouched...except for a few animal tracks. And...if I'm lucky...catching them in an unguarded moment and grab a low laying branch and send snow down on us all! :o

Sounds like your wife and I would have good times...moments out in the winter wonderland and I forget to get cold.

I like snow as long as I don't have to drive in it and can sit at home with my cup of tea/hot chocolate and slippers and watch it come down outside.

I like to play on snow for a few hours while it is still fresh. Then come home where it is much warmer...and no snow. :p

I can see benefits to that...but...also am a born through and through Ohioan...and appreciate waking to a fresh coat of newly fallen snow. I see it as a gift...when unexpected...or even when expected snow is the first thing I see when I glance out the window. As such...I can also appreciate a SNOW DAY...those unexpected days where school is canceled. I am the first to put on their pajamas inside out...in hopes of recieving news the next morning of no school. I may have grown up...but...my inner kid refuses to. :)

I am from the Philippines who moved to the US in 1991. I was stationed in Guam (a US trust territory) until 1998 before moving to TX.

I remember my very first heavy snow...it was Christmas of 2001 in Lubbock, TX. Loved it and I went out wearing my shorts and sleeveless shirt. Did a snow angel before I felt that terrible pain in my toes!

Walked (fully bundled this time) around the neighborhood later, taking pics of the pristine white snow. I even made my first snowman...if you can call it that. LOL

A few days later...everything is slushy dark mud. I so hated it. As I said, I will stay here where it is warmer and when I see the occasional snow, I will enjoy it for a few hours, after which I am sure it will all melt away. ;)

There ya have it...you were traumatized the first time you experienced snow...though...I sadly found a bit of amusement from your woes.

I guess I hadn't realized you were from the Philippines...such tragedy...praying your family all are okay.

LOL...no worries, I do too. :p Imagine when frost bite setting in and seeing this half naked man skipping/jumping/running back inside! LOL Of course to complete the picture, imagine everyone inside are watching and laughing too.

Thanks for the well wishes and prayer. Luckily, my (known) relatives are not with the path of destruction but I wept several times (almost every night) watching Philippine local news online. Survivors are grieving, hungry, thirsty, sick, wet, homeless...and another weaker typhoon delivered more rain. :(

It's frightening to see how little effort our governments can spare for disaster preparedness,is it because of the lean manufacturing/just in time business model has overwhelmed thought and underwhelmed expectations?

Iv'e put in a store of frozen pheasant for Siberian snow drift eventualities but looking at my paltry supplies it may not be enough.

Here's to hoping the USS McArthur or whatever pulls into harbour sooner.

I am relieved to hear your known relatives were not in the path...how can one not become emotional seeing what they are faced with. My heart and prayers are with them...
