prosposis pallida known locally as klu , is a thorny hardwood shrub with acacia like leaves and a scented, bright yellow puffball flower. they grow in abundance in hot, dry conditions in hawaii.
this one was collected a year ago up the coast from where I live. in its original form, the tree was 5 feet tall, reduced to 3 feet when collected, then to 18 inches last summer. yesterday unwanted branches were eliminated, keeper branches cut back and the predominantly deadwood trunk was rough carved. after a bit of r&r, finish and detailing of the deadwood needs to be done
