It looks promising. Curious to see how small you can get the leaves.

Well, it's buried up to its neck for now...
Anyways, I think a dark rock coveted with foil will be cooler than without it as foil would reflect sun rays.
I am thinking that foil allows to mold everything close to the rock especially when it comes to fine roots. With any other wrapping you might get a gap between high points.
Not my idea, just trying what I read here and saw on YouTube.
From our own leatherback.

Sounds like solid logic.

This one did not make it - dead.
Substitution - same kind of rose over a different kind of rock. Bad pic, but it's already planted.

#4 Thymeleaf cotoneaster.
Got it last November from Hirt's Gardens bare root and planted it with ROR in mind.
Attached it to a rock today and planted in the ground till next year.

Srping 2024 update.
Dug it out of the ground and potted it up. Trimmed as it is sprouting shoots all over like a rose it is. Forgot to take a pic before I potted it. Grafting tape was left on as the roots appear to be only on one side of the rock. Roots at the bottom were looking healthy.

Spring 2024 update.
Dug out of the ground and potted in a pond basket. Foil was left in place, decided not to disturb the roots. This one was in a shady spot last summer and got trimmed by rabbits over the winter. Hopefully repot and more sun will do it good.

Spring 2024 update.
This one is doing well. Roots did not quite grab the rock yet. The rope was nowhere to be found, completely rotted away. Added some sphagnum, more rope and fresh foil wrap. Trimmed, wired one small branch and lightly scarred the trunk in attempt to get it "crusty".
Potted in a pond basket with chicken grit on top and around the rock to keep it all down and together.
