I have just received a three foot tall Katsur seedling. I would like to know if it can be grown in a 5 inch deep pond basket and when should I cut it down
to a workable BONSAI size. This type of tree is new to me, I mostly have conifers and Japanese maples that I work on.
Any help will be gratefully appreciated. Thanks for any constructive help.

I got one too the other day but the apex was snapped off due to shipping, the retailer said they would send me another one and I was curious if I could merge the trunks of the two trees like you can with maples?

I would air layer it above lower branches, and I would not put it off, I would do it now.
