I can't say I'm satisfied with the behavior of either party right now, regardless of political affiliation.

I keep asking myself...is Kavanaugh really the absolute best the USA has to offer?

I mean I feel for the guy, his life is totally flipped upside down here. I won't pretend to judge of if it is deserved or not. But how is the USA unable to find an upstanding citizen that both parties can agree is worthy of sitting in the chair for a lifetime. Kavanaugh ain't it.

In all fairness, the political terms "Left" and "Right" are not readily transferable between South America, Asia, Europe, and the USA, which makes it very confusing for people following U.S. politics from abroad.

For example, by most measures, the classic and (justifiably) most vilified "right-wing" political party in modern history is the Nazi Party of 20th Century Germany, which was fascist, exercised tight-fisted centralized government control, were socialists, and rejected individual rights in favor of the good of the whole (Motherland).

Yet, the most right-wing faction of American politics, today, are Libertarians, which are a faction of the Republican Party, and are the closest thing to Classic Thomas Jefferson-style/18th Century "Liberals". Libertarians generally want to trim Federal government control to the bone, return power to the States, champion individual rights (above the government), want to legalize/end restrictions on just about everything related to person freedom (drugs, marriage, guns, etc.), and support free-market principles with very little government interference. Hardly what folks in other parts of the world would call right-wing.

Up until the Democrats unloaded their unsubstantiated, straight-face lies upon the man, he was among the top-five most respected Federal Appellate Court Judges in the land. Given that none of what is being propagated can be substantiated, nothing should have changed.

Here's a little humor piece a friend of mine (Chuck Porretto) wrote to characterize what has occurred. IMHO, it's just about this sleazy, too:

My statement above is not based at all on what the Democrats have brought to the table. Like I said, I don't agree with how either party has handled this.

Temperament. Nonpartisan. Complete honesty, an an awareness of the nature of American people today. that's what I'll be looking for in a Supreme Court Justice.

That question is irrelevant at this point. If there is a better person than Kavanaugh, which is debateable, do you think this person would want to put them self and family through what this nominee is going through? This is the real threat we are facing at this moment.

This is post I like : it's well-argumented, based on sound references and thus worth considering, or debating.

That being said, I've yet to see corroborated evidence that Kavanaugh is actually a bad guy, so there is really no justification so much of what has been said about the man so far. Did he get really drunk on occasion? I'm sure he probably did. Do I think that that has any bearing whatsoever on his character now? Given the fact that he has passed six FBI background checks (here comes #7), i'd say not. This isn't about women being able to fight back against sexual abuse (they, and anyone else, should be allowed and encouraged to do so), this is about people demanding that due process be thrown out the window to punish a man for unsubstantiated claims.
