When I returned to Bonsai 5 years ago, one of my first "trees" was a small kingsville from Steve at Plant City. I have liked them since I had the honor of working on Father Paul's Kingsville at the Monastery in the 80's. The bigger one in the picture was only slightly larger than the small one when I purchased. The small one is a 5 year old cutting from another Kingsville I have. I am going to repot it and work on it soon. Once I do that I'll post a pic on this thread. Over the winter I purchased one of Steve's large kingsville's. It was repotted earlier this year. I will post a pic of it on this thread too. Feel free to post pics of your Kingsvilles and discuss them on this thread.

Edit: the larger one was cut back hard last year. It sent out 1" long shoots with big leaves.

I've a couple regular boxwood I've found to be the toughest trees in my garden. Love them. I also have a couple 30yr olds in the ground coming out soon to begin their journey. No experience with Kingsville specific as I read they aren't as cold hardy for my zone 6 winters. Is this correct? I'm trying to cull down the needy babies in my flock.

Rodney Clemons has a sea of 50+ yo kingsville, if any one is serious about wanting this cultivar and willing to spend 4 figures seek him out for a beautiful plant that will be THE centerpiece or one of that will stand proud in your collection

I just picked one up on the FB auction page. It has has little bit of inverse taper but in my yard it’ll be fine. The other one..was thriving then got a case of blight that took out 95% of it. I cut all of it off except one branch..hoping it survives.

@jimib i don't think you have a kingsville, examine the leafs between yours and the other pics in this thread, they do throw branches that revert, so maybe?

The leaves are larger than the other one I had…but it was sold to me as a Kingsville. It’s def smaller than the landscape ones in my yard though. The other kingsville I had the leaves were tiny until it got blight, the new leaves are coming in much larger than the original leaves were. But you may be correct..

Cool, you really need to examine your different leaf sizes and reduce the reversion stems to maintain the kingsville traits
