Good evening from Florida nuts. I would like to get some advice and tips on how best to accomplish my first literati bonsai. I have this little kishu and need your help! I received this tree from EvergreenGardenWorks last November. When it first arrived it was in its winter color but now has the turned a beautiful green. I followed mr Brents suggestion to leave it in its container and let it "acclimate". I've just watered it and gave it some fert and put it aside. I believe it's doin pretty well so im thinking about the next several years and what id like to accomplish with this tree. I really love the literati look on these trees and would like to pursue this path. Anyone with experience shaping trees in this style pls chime in. If yall dont think this is the tree for this style pls let me know that as well. But if this style is obtainable for me pls tell me my best first approach. Id really like to get this goin. As I understand it literati dont necessarily need large trunk calipers. I know this is a young tree but im hoping that there's a process for this style that I can go ahead a proceed with. If not yall just let me know!

These are some pictures I googled for inspiration. I don't know if I'm allowed to post pics of trees that are not mine and if I'm not pls let me know. I just wanted to know if anyone believes I have a shot at creating something similar with this tree.

This tree isn't really a candidate for this style. A tree with a much longer more rugged trunk would be more suitable

I've got something for you to look at and I prob have a small tree you can have that would work better for a small bunjin.

See there's that word again. I was watching a video earlier with a guy saying his tree could be potted in a shallow "bunjin" pot. I thought he had said" bonsai" pot but the video just wasn't clear. So I guess I'll look up bunjin. Thanks man.
So a no go with this one eh? Well I'll take your advice. I seen one today that was bad butt and for some reason I thought of this tree being a good candidate. But i see your point. The tree i seen was def alot taller. I'll bring this one by when i come and let you look at it. Maybe i can get more suited style for it. Or maybe I'll just put it back up for a couple years and see how it looks after it gets a little bigger lol

I agree with choppychoppy. I say try a tall and slanted style. It would look nice.

Pines are good for bunjin style.

Juniper can make great Literati/Bunjin-ji. Thin trunk is easy to bend as youngster and will get better bark, bigger diameter in time. Easy way to get(cheap)personal design tree if not rich enough to buy Yamadori Juniper;).
