Hi,
Looking good 👍. Build a few branches and you will have a nice tree.
After seeing your BC, and looking at mine which are similar in growth stage, I am thinking our summers may not be hot enough for long enough to get this species really growing lots. They don’t seem to grow much before Xmas then Autumn comes too soon. What’s your thinking and experience?

Hi Charles,

I think our summers are hot enough, I think getting full sun is key the more sun the better.
I thought mine grew pretty well considering one was severally root pruned, another was sick that returned to health and another I took cuttings from all summer.
I had mine growing in water with the roots 1/2 submerged all summer I think that the water helped retain a little heat for the roots to grow better at night.
This spring am going to feed them a lot more to get that early growth going (trying to get a snowball effect of growth going sooner).
I'll also be putting them in water sooner (basically a week or two after I see some green needles emerge).

My small Bald cypress has done quite a lot of growing so far this summer putting on about 2 feet so far. Wound is starting to heal up nicely. Pics 1 2 and 3

The $5 Cypress I rescued is also doing well in pic 4. I tried to Air layer the top of but it looks like its failed. Will be trunk chopping this one in spring.

Pic 5 is another BC project, Think I'm going to style this to have a more conical shape or add to a forest.

Last two pics are of my Big Bald cypress that I'm growing had quite a lot of root surgery last spring so its growing slowly, having a partial shade cloth over it isn't helping but I need to to protect my other trees. It is starting to get a nice base.

Have not updated in a while. My small Bald Cypress and others ended up going into this forest I created. I still have been letting my biggest BC develop and am going to chop late winter here. It's started to develop some slight fluting down at the base. 20230513_145555.jpg20230513_150917.jpg20230513_150946.jpg20230513_145843.jpg20230513_145849.jpg
