I have a subhirtella, and a seedling forest grouping of Okame. I don't find these finicky in full sun in hot temps, must be only some species.
A shame about this tree though, it was lovely in bloom.
I wondered that too Judy. Knowing you had cherry. But researching...this cultivar is a known for giving ones this problems, then other areas they thrive. Curious their zone in which these do really amazing. For there are some good specimens out there that proves some can have success. I am not sure I need another cherry...even a different cultivar. Satsuki do well for me. Who knows...seen the one you recently picked up. Very sweet! As of now...I am wanting a raft grove with feminine movement like that exposed root maple I lost...without the roots. I have a place on my bench bare...for such a project if I ever find the right material. Preferably not maple...
