how thick if your base at the moment if you don't mind me asking? I'm curious to follow up with you in a year to see if the chop slowed down trunk thickening. I'm wondering if the prolific budding will lead to a quick recovery
ill have to measure it and get back to you. good idea.

Looks like it's running on fumes. Planning on doing anything to it this year beyond some real gentle wiring?
i dont know. it seems to be growing fine. the latest pic is from 3/26/19, nine days after the pic before last. and yeah, ill probably add some wire sometime.

nice growth this year. i might reduce the sacrifice clump to one branch. not going to cut the sacrifices till i see if they'll help thicken the trunk or not. if i see inverse taper I'll go ahead and delete them. i like how quickly the scars are healing up.

Nice growth.

I'd want to remove that really dominant one, let that low sac get dominant.

Maybe leave the dominant "new trunk" as a sacrifice and find a line in that high sac clump for a trunk continuation.

I see a nice wiggle in there. And that dominant one seems ret to pump it up, where the low sac or anything else will take another year to be almost ready to pump the whole trunk up.

you want to do the exact opposite from what I was planning

It's not that I want to do, as much as the tree wants to do.

It's a delicate understanding between...

Working with the tree as it wants.

And

Working the tree to be what we want.

The difference in time though, is immense.

Hello, if i had your tree in my garden, i would cut at least 1 branch among the 3 branches you wired, to avoid swelling on this point. I would also cut the big left branch because the more you wait, the bigger scar you'll have on your trunk... There is another branch on the left side (the first one), that can become a good sacrifice branch and replace the big branche above ->

Wow, Great progression. Thanks.

And they say that Kotohime is a slow grower!
