Just a quick Larch against the last of the fall color we will have here. Going to snow tonight!

And just for fun, here is one of my landscape JM's in it's most jewel like capacity.

Nice Judy! Love that maple!! Hmmm is there any layering to be done in there somewhere? Hey BTW you would not be interested by any chance in buying a large (and beautiful) Larch forest from a certain guy here in this forum would you???? ;)

Made me laugh!, I've looked at that tree so many times for a layer... but I hear that dissectums are difficult. maybe I'll try anyway...
Oddly, I'm not that into forest plantings. Don't know why. I have a lame BC forest, and it's lame cause I never spend any time on it. BUT, if you have any maples you ever want to loosen your grip on....:o

Love how you have the larch off to the side. When one is trying to beef a trunk can they still plant to the side like that...or is it a better bet to plant them centered for that. My Bougainvillea I would love when repotted...to plant off to the side like that.

LOL ok no worries! Not sure if I am ready yet to sell any maples but I will let you know if that changes  Yes I think you should try layering it anyways! I have a very similar one here but to air layer the spot that I want means I will destroy its beauty. Not sure that I want to do this to my poor dissectum :(

tree placement in a pot is about aesthetics, as long as the roots fit where you want the tree to sit. Centered is generally not desirable. Off-center to the rear and to the side is usually best. Imagine a tic-tac-toe board superimposed on the bottom of the pot: Look to place the tree at one of the rear intersections of the lines.
Insofar as beefing up a trunk, a bonsai pot is not where that will happen very soon. However, in Ohio with a bougie, you dont have a LOT of choices. You may be able to gently place the unpotted bougie in the ground during the warm/hot season(s) to speed up it's journey. Or look for a greenhouse! That's what Martha Meehan does with her beauties, but then, she's in the business.
