Hi Guys,
First time poster - long time bonsai (hacker) enthusiast.
I spotted this larch in 2013 and collected it in 2014 and would like to share the progression of this tree with all of you.

August 2013.
Tree in ground at friends cottage in Apsley Ontario.
I reduced the height & cut the roots with a shovel around the tree to promote root growth closer to the trunk.

One year later, pruned tree on site, & collected.

Not happy with roots😏
Fine roots not as close to trunk as I would like, also two thick roots on opposite sides have most of the hair roots.
Makes it impossible to get into a small pot at this time.
(I’ll work on forcing roots back closer to trunk over the next few
repottings. )

Other possible pot but the roots wouldn’t cooperate.

New pot and home for next few years. Planting angle will be tweaked a bit in the near future ( to place apex an inch to the left).

Pic14– This tree helped inspire me back in 2015. I came across this picture on the internet but for the life of me cannot remember the artist. If anyone knows the artist/owner of this bonsai please let me know . Thanks.

It has a bit of a Nick Lenz feel to it. Maybe it is too full for his work.

Sweet! @Kem S you got the source of your inspiration tree :)
It’s a sweet little larch that has come a long way... and the best is yet to come!

There are so many threads here where people show the start of a tree or a specific snap shot along the way and never follow up. This is great. Shows the ‘origin story’ of the street and your thought and process along the way creating an awesome tree. Thanks Kem!

Thanks Anthony,
You are very generous, I’ll post follow up pics in a year or so.

Hi Lifaholic,
Thanks for complimenting my ‘sweet little larch’
I checked all the Nick Lenz trees I could find.
I found two that look similar in silhouette, but neither were a match. So I’m still not sure.
Will continue on with the “Quest”
Kem🌳
Any other suggestions? Anyone???

Hi Leatherback,
Thanks for kind words. I appreciate it.

After lots of web surfing, I found the “Inspiration Tree” on Walter Palls image gallery.
I hope Walter doesn’t think I’m plagiarizing his work :)
I found it very inspiring.
Stay safe all. Isolate with your trees.

Hi Leatherback,
Bonsai? I can muddle my way through a bit.
Using the internet & technology ?
I’m bordering on being an idiot.
I didn’t realize that you had sent the link.
Until it was just pointed out to me.
Arrggh 😖🤬 Technology
Thanks again

Hi “L”
Quest completed!
The artist of ‘Inspiration’ tree is Walter Pall.
I didn’t think it would be solved this quickly.
Yeah Internet ✅
