Today I assembled a large cascade pot. It is slab built like the others. This one is 8” across at the top and 14” tall.

Slabs are cut, now dry dry dry! Only a little. Still have to be workable.

The first walls go up and are joined.

Then the other 2.

Now add the bottom and flip it right side up. 160C1501-A79A-4688-BA3C-DF48E7B0637C.jpeg

And some coiled cloud decoration to finish off.

Very nicely done! Those slabs look pretty thick. Do you have a slab roller? I notice you do not cut your ends at an angle when putting the slabs together, why not? How long do you let your slabs dry out? I really like your work just trying to make mine better.

The Studio at the arts center has a good slab roller. It does save a lot of effort and time. I roll out slabs for cutting and assembling the last half our of class and take them home wrapped up to work on during the weekend. I use the roller at either 1/4 or 3/8” thickness. I find thicker slabs a lot easier to work with and to construct. This pot used about 18-20 lbs of clay. I rolled out the whole 25 lbs bag, but had some extra left over.

I let them dry in plastic for a couple of days or leave them out for 2 hours if they need to firm up (probably less in AZ). I do bevel the edges but rarely get the full 45 degrees. The slabs in the picks are all beveled but doesn’t look like it in the pics. When I make the bevel cuts I save the skinny strips and found those are useful sometimes in filling gaps between slabs.

Everything dries in plastic wrap and I open it up a couple of times a day to allow more air in and facilitate drying slowly. Less cracks w slow dry.

Probably unglazed since my cascades are junipers. I’m going to stain it before the high firing, but the effect will still be unglazed on the whole.
