Need help with my Chinese privet. I want to make it smaller I think IDK. Any thoughts...
Us e branch cutter or a saw to make any tree smaller.........
On the other hand, you may be looking at the problem from the wrong direction. At the moment branches are skinny with minimal foliage. As the branches develop the tree should gradually look to have better proportions.
You have only given one view of the tree so I can't assess 3D movement well from just a single 2D view but it looks like the top of the tree moves away from the current viewing angle. That can also skew the appearance of a bonsai. Is there a better angle to view this tree?
Current branches emerge from the trunk at odd angles but are then dead straight. Some wiring may help make those look more natural and improve the overall look.
I don't think you can expect a relatively cheap trees to look like a bonsai masterpiece straight away. Time and effort are involved in developing really good trees.
