I bought a nursery liquidambar last spring. It was about 15 feet tall with a 3 1/2" trunk. I chopped it and potted in this box. Now...nearly 1 1/2 years later...it's really taken off. I've found that by clipping the larger leaves frequently, it maintains a smaller leaf and seems to push lots of new growth. The squirrels had their way with the bark last summer...I'm guessing those scars will heal with time.
It's interesting how the branches develop a "corky" appearance when they harden off. They really are fast growers...I did a thread graft a couple months back which seems to be taking...though not as fast as I expected. I'm trying to fill in a void in the lower left front.

Nice find!

Roots look darn good for a nursery tree!

Keep us posted!

Any update on this one? I'm a fan of the species (at large sizes) and am thinking about grabbing a large nursery specimen too . . .

Would like to see an update also. I have a twin trunk this is fairly new to me. Haven't sen to many of them.
