Starting a progression thread on this Pitch pine I recently got. I am going to style it as a literati.
Here is my idea
Get rid of most of the branches except the first branch shown and drop it low. Next I want to make the apex come down(1)by bending it pretty sharp and make the next branch closest to top(2) the new apex to grow for a few years to thicken it so I can eventually Jin it.
I’ve done some reseach and the best time to cut away these branches is the winter when the sap isn’t flowing. So in a few months I’m going to make these cuts and then repot to a smaller pot in the spring.
Does anyone have experience repotting pitch pine? I feel like I can take a good amount of the rootball, it’s very vigorous and is back budding everywhere.
Another question.... in order to bring down the apex the way I want. Would rafia be needed? I’m thinking yes, better safe then sorry, since it’s going to be a sharp bend.
Some bad sketches I made on a plane. but you get the idea.
Still need to find the right pot too.
