I didn’t take one. It is 6’ tall, 1” diameter trunk. Has no branches low.

I'm sure it would bud like crazy. I've chopped coast live oaks, interior live oaks, and cork oaks and they all respond with hundreds of new buds.

Hmmm.. well.. I’m out-of-my element/climate here...

Slightly confused, but I’ll stay put ‘til we figure it out.

This is right^^^^
Google Coast Live Oak and you will see yours. It is a CA native. I wish I could grow one here.
Plant is miss tagged but I see that frequently at big box stores.

I don't think that is coast live oak. I suspect the label is correct.

CLO has short, curled, leaves with spikes surrounding.

Seems like one of you west coast folks could figure out what it is. I have never seen anything like it on the east coast.

Looks like a hybrid of Quercus agrifolia and Quercus virginiana. Long narrow leaf of virginiana and spikes of agrifolia. Maybe @PaulH could tell us. He know his oaks pretty well. Could be just the age of the tree also. Leaves on young oaks often look different from when they get some age.
Edit: Sorry I see Paul has already commented.

That would be awesome and at least possible if not probable. Oaks hybridize fairly easily.

It doesn't look at all like a coast live oak. I think the label is correct. If we had acorns we could tell for sure. It looks a little like escarpment oak, Q. fusiformis, too.
