I keep seeing Mark's (@kingsville grower) trees popping up on this site, and it makes me really happy!

Maybe this will be a slow thread, but it might be fun to track what all of use are doing with his work over the decades to come.

I suspect many of us will be showing his trees in 20-30 years, and some of us will be killing or ruining them before then!

So please, share your maples from Mark: successes, failures, plans and anything else!

Thank you Mark for all your hard work!

I have a few koto hime from Mark, but here is just one for now:

I am planning 1-2 main trunks, with 3-4 lower branches. All of these emerge from the same base. The top-down view gives the clearest picture of what I have in mind.

the straight branches on the right of the first picture (the main trunks to-be) will certainly back bud, and when they do i will select new leaders to create movement (and prune back those branches)

Amur maple I got from mark as very young stock years back. Been in the ground for a while, will probably dig, cut back roots and put back in the ground this spring. Fall color was nice last year.

I bought one (kiyohime) from him a few years ago but it didn't make it. At some point I'll probably try another.

@Gary McCarthy , I bought mine from him after seeing one on his facebook auction (not sure if it was 99cent or the auction page). Someone else bought it but
I just sent him a PM and he sent back photos of a couple of trees for me to consider. He's always responded to PMs on facebook pretty quickly in my experience.

How do you guys contact Mark to buy his trees? I've tried contacting him off his website, FB page, and I never get any response.

He’s a very busy guy - but don’t let that mislead you! He is great!

I’m in montreal, i drove to him (6 hours each way) and all of the Canadian-US import paperwork was worth it!

I know a lot of americans buy and have the trees shipped!

Another kiohime from Mark I picked up from Mark In kannapolis a year and change ago. No before pics, which is too bad because I did a load of work on the roots, flattening them and screwing it to a board, along with some trunk cutbacks. Any way, some before and after pics from today’s session... more root and top work.

Oh, I realized I had a photo of this one from a year prior. You can see I cut about half of the vertical root mass off last year, and already there is a nice more horizontal root system. Looking at what my teacher did on similar maples, I probably should have removed even more roots this year, would have allowed me to get it on a board a year sooner.

Ive bought a few from Mark through .99 bonsai. No pics, but his roots are hands down some of the most well developed you will find.
