In December, I visited a bonsai center/school in Seoul, Korea and obviously they had a ton of korean hornbeams. Just wanted to share some of the ones I liked (out of the dozens and dozens). Most of them were enormous. I put an iphone 5 as a reference for scale on one picture. As a beginner, I really liked seeing the level of ramification

We all, beginner to Vance Wood,Al Kepler status like that fine ramification.

wow. Awesome trees! You've got a great opportunity to see some really impressive bonsai in person that most beginners in bonsai (in the western world, at least) don't have. This helps tons in forming a good understanding of stylistic principles.

Korean Hornbeam is about the only non-conifer I care about. I have grown several from seed and have one left---if it has survived this winter.

JudyB, I bought some hornbeams (in the US) because I saw your progression series on this forum! Hope in 10 years they pan out to something like yours..

Thanks corncan, I was lucky that Don let me snag that one from him, larger ones are getting scarce here. I will be happy if I can get half that ramification going on, that will be my focus for the next few seasons.

These are really impressive. Thanks, I really enjoyed the photos.
