Got this one via mail from Maplestone Ornamentals in 2019 and repotted upon arrival. Took an air layer from it this year. Here it is now:

Any update on this ? I have a fireglow in my yard but I don’t see them used often. Been debating getting some air layers off of it.

I took another layer off it this year. Didn’t get as many roots on this year’s layer as I did last year, so I’m less certain about how the new layer will do. Time will tell.

Last year’s layer was doing well this growing season. I didn’t do any work on it, as I want it to get well established in the mesh bottom flat first. I want to grow out the trunk also, so I’m not in any hurry to get started with the first trunk chop.

I’m thinking I’ll let the parent tree grow out for at least a year so it will have enough foliar mass to drive root development the next time I take a layer.
