What it looks like now (fall 2021):

Mostly just letting it grow right now. I wired one branch this summer, but that’s it. I want to see the foliage turn a nice dark green before I do anything significant with it. I think I want to find a sunnier spot for it to live for next year’s growing season.

I haven’t really decided if I want a bigger trunk or if I want to keep it small and just work on getting some additional taper. I’m kind of leaning towards keeping it small.

I think you should decide in which apex you want to keep and trim accordingly / make Jin what you take off.. also in my opinion would look nicer in a round pot.

Yeah, this was just a partial trim job. I have some pondering to do regarding what direction to go with this. I’m thinking that it’ll go into our local club show next year, so I’ll make that apex decision and wire the tree in the near future.

As far as developing the tree going forward, I’m actually thinking I may stick it in the ground on a tile and grow it out for a few years to get some root flare going, thicken up the base some, and diminish the prominence of the pigeon breasted section.
