My official entrance into the contest. I’ve got about 50 coast live oak and exactly 50 cork oak. In my last batch of acorns I tried a few different planting options, and the ones planted in a large box grew the most vigorously, so thought I’d do that again. Fingers crossed but my last batch germination rate was about 90%. I’ll keep the best 5-10 of each type and maybe sell the rest off for cost or donate to my bonsai club.

Soil is a mix of pumice, coco coir, potting soil, and succulent mix. Had a little help building my grow boxes too!

Interesting potting mix!. Looking forward to seeing the results

Was curious to see if any of the acorns were starting to sprout roots, pulled a cork oak acorn and saw a little root starting to push. Also noticed a root coming out of the bottom of the box. IMG_7088.jpeg

Noticed my first sprout this AM. Looks like the party will be starting soon.

Corks are blowing up, coast oaks are starting to pop as well. Went ahead and wired some of the corks for a little movement down low. As usual the take rate is pretty high so I’ll have plenty to choose from down the road.
