Just a quick tutorial on how to drill small bowls and such to make pots. I found this little bowl at my local international market and thought why not. I used my diamond hole saw to bore out the bottom then I attached a small piece of window screen with a piece of 18 gauge copper wire. Pretty clean and neat way to make inexpensive pots and takes less than 5 minutes.

I've done a few of those. The only fault I've found is that the majority will be white. Not a deal breaker, though. Dollar Tree and Dollar General have different colors on hand sometimes.

Goodwill or thrift stores are also good places to find bowls and ceramics

This is also good for beginners and those on a budget. You would be surprised what will make a half way decent pot.

Only concern really is that some improv pots might not be durable enough to survive the elements. Not a reason not to try making some of course, just a consideration. Like how some materials could crack being left out in the winter

I did this when I started and it didn’t work well for my tree’s I put in them. I personally think using the plastic bonsai pots are more reliable.

You will find a tile cutting bit often a lot more useful than a diamond hole bit. Plus they are great for enlarging existing holes, countersinking edges to round them off. I do larger holes for drainage and smaller ones for wiring tie downs. Remember to tie down al trees, loose roots dont grow!
