I’ve come to enjoy saving seeds from our grocery store apples.
Cold stratification in fridge for 6 weeks, then into the pot. Pretty dang easy.
These 2 are 2yrs old from honey crisp apple seeds.

Spring of ‘01. One didn’t make it 0988F55F-D565-415B-AB9D-69238B2871C4.jpeg
Today I decided to repot the pair into their own pots.
The way they looked together was not good.90BE90E3-CCDD-405A-8023-02169B3DAEC4.jpeg1CC34A56-B31C-45CA-8E98-7E77DBC1E376.jpeg
So I separated the two and cut large roots on both. Since they were paired into this pot, roots are rather lop sided.
I decided to pot up the more interesting one in a nice @sorce pot.
With the lop sided roots, I ended up potting towards one side of the pot. 85BBF324-B1D4-4327-B5CA-2FB645D792D9.jpegEF2DE423-9ACC-4603-BBA4-4C2F49E53892.jpeg5FAD4616-0030-46A2-8624-671ECDE166ED.jpeg3FB48F25-38A4-49FE-988B-CDE4D2DE705D.jpeg
the other one was put in a training pot. C4E451DB-07A0-48B1-A8BC-31129F4CE7CB.jpeg

Eventually they may actually make pretty decent apples. No telling what sort, and they'll be rather small, but they should produce edible fruit in a few years, not just bitter crabapples.

Those have some nice movement! I find myself collecting seeds everywhere I go. My 6yr old daughter even collects seeds to give me, lol.

I've been fighting with this lately.
I'm out of places to put pots until summer, and I'm running out of pots!

Well I happen to know a guy that just listed a fresh batch of pots! 🤣🤣🤣

I just planted a couple mandarin seeds myself. Those will be interesting growing from seed.

And I know a guy who still has to file his taxes.

My brother has had good luck starting the mandarin orange seeds. I finally had a lemon seed sprout for me a couple weeks ago.
Neighbor kid threw an apple core in my yard a couple months ago. I just plopped it in a soft spot in the ground. No idea what to expect of that.

I feel you.
My kids have an apple, and I’m like, “ooh, save that core!”
I also have a small forest of 15 or so 1 yr olds, another dozen sprouting, and others still in the fridge about ready to plant. 🤣
