This is my 200th post. The 200th time you guys have to deal with me in some way or another. Anyways, I was looking for a post about this tree but couldn’t find it, so I’m making one of my proudest mame

What do you guys think? Good or nah?
I know pot sizes don’t really matter with names, is that correct?
How do I develop branches? Grow long and cut back, or just pinch?

It’s not really wowing me yet, but it will get better with age. How long has it been potted there?

It looks like it has been “pinched” or clipped recently, wait into it responds with some growth and then remove some of the older leaves and/or larger and shading leaves. Look for a place to grow a sacrifice branch or two.

That base looks good.

I'd put it in a wide shallow joint to help that base swell out.

You can slice it back and get it in a small pot later!

Only a month, this is the first new growth, hoping for some back budding lower down. And it hasn't been clipped, more likely stomped and trampled because it was growing through a crack in the pavement

@sorce i was very tempted to put it in the drip tray that the pot came with, its 11 mm deep but it only had a single tap root. So I'm developing a few feeders first, might head up to my tree guy sometime to see what pots he's got.
Or, get a soft plastic lid from something, cut a small hole in it, and plant the tree on top of that like we do in a tile fro bigger trees to develop nebari.
Never mind, my mind got ticking, i'll figure out something creative.

Kevin,

Health first. Learn to grow and prune in Later Spring ------ if needed.

Otherwise grow for your trunk size of 2.5 cm and then think about
a design.
Good Day

Don't worry, I've learned to be less trigger happy with scissors. I think this is the type of look it's gonna have for the next few months, t-shirt weather is officially over.

Kevin,

One of the things that defines a good mame bonsai is a developed trunk with age or apparent age and a crown with some ramification. This is different than a short undeveloped tree in a container.

This is not a criticism just an answer to your question. You have to understand if you want to move to more advanced work.

All this being said, there is nothing wrong with your tree, enjoy your bonsai.

Kevin ,

one for you.
We can grow together.
Don't know the name, found on a sidewalk and has leaves
like a religiosa , but smaller.

Might never be anything, but enjoyable.
Pot by the way is from a young girl on your side who sells
Yi Xing pots on Amazon.
Good Day
Anthony

By the way this is the normal size we collect.
When we collect, does no harm to the environment.

This is the size I can get before the school’s maintenance workers pluck them out to keep the area clean, I have another one with more significant trampling scars, and then I have a RoR attempt which consists of about 4 that I’ve tied together. Since I haven’t got a yard, it seems like mame and shohin size is right down my alley
